English and Spanish Ebooks free in

There is nothing as to have a book in the hand, but sometimes he is more useful to unload it and to take it with us. Our Palm can do that, already we have seen how. An electronic point in favor of ebooks or books, is that there are many in Internet that are of public dominion, reason why they are possible to be unloaded freely, of gratuitous way. We see some sites where to obtain them, although predominantly in English language, also in Spanish:

In the Network there are thousands of electronic books of gratuitous unloading
In the Network there are thousands of electronic books of gratuitous unloading

  • Gutenberg.org: the first project destined to turn books of public dominion to digital format. At the moment they count with more than 5.000. The book section in Spanish is also important.

MyUAE, the emulator of Amiga for PalmOS

The amount of existing emulators for PalmOS is certainly impressive. Or we have seen as thanks to these programs is possible to play in our Palm games of videoconsolas of Nintendo and Sega, or to use the PDA like a scientific calculator HP of high range. But more historically famous platforms exist emulators of many, as we already saw in this extensive list of emulators for PalmOS. And one of these platforms is Amiga.

Amiga 500, the sold team more of the Amiga family
Amiga 500, the sold team more of the Amiga family

Amiga is a family of personal computers developed by Amiga Corporation. The development of the Amiga began in 1982, and Commodore International introduced the machine in the market in 1985, after buying Amiga Corporation. Peculiarly, the developers chose the name “Amiga” by the Spanish word indeed (feminine companion).

The name in code than would be first Amiga 1000 was “Lorraine”, with a microprocessor 7,14 Motorola MC68000 to MHz, 768Kb of ram memory (expandable to a maximum of 8 Mb) and 256Kb ROM. The machine equipped chipset own with capacities video and outposts audio, and an operating system conmultitarea pre-emptiva (well-known at the moment like AmigaOS).

Although the motorola processor is of 32 bits, the first models of Amiga used an external bus of data of 16 bits, reason why a machine of 16 bits like Atari ST. was considered later Models of Amiga, based on more modern processors 68k, or even PowerPC, yes that was of 32 bits.

Amiga ahead supposed a great jump from the computers of 8 bits, for example Commodore 64, and quickly it was made popular, mainly in Europe. It was prominently used in tasks related to video and vision of control of businesses, being one more a cheaper alternative to the PC and Macintosh of the time.

When Commodore broke in 1994, there was still very active an Amiga community, that continued supporting the platform much after salesmen left the main it. The magazine of more popular Amiga, Amiga Format, continued publishing editions until 2000, 6 years after the disappearance of Commodore. The interest in the platform is still sufficient to maintain a column specialized weekly in the English magazine Micro Mart.

At the moment sufficient demand in hardware of Amiga expansion exists like so that some manufacturing pequeñaos exist in active-duty. After the desparición of Commodore, manifolds companies have continued selling new Amiga models. At the moment, Eyetech sells Amiga hardware under the AmigaOne mark.

The success of the Amiga was so, that personages as Andy Warhol or Steven used them to Spielberg for their creations. Series like Babylon 5, SeaQuest DSV or Max Headroom had their special effects thanks to Amiga equipment.

Many sites of Internet exist dedicated to the Amiga, since still there are many users of these equipment that waits for the probable launching of AmigaOS 4,0 and new Amiga equipment. For example we can emphasize Amiga.org, AmigaWorld and the Spanish Amiga Zone, where besides other contents, all the Spanish games for Amiga can be unloaded.

As much the enamored ones with this platform, like those who never have proven one and want to investigate it, can replace the lack of one of these machines using the emulators WinUAE or WinFellow. But what today it interests to us it is that an excellent emulator for PalmOS de Amiga, the MyUAE exists, of the creators of the versions of Quake, Doom and Duke Nukem 3D for PalmOS.

Simulator of a F29 running in MyUAE, a Palm

MyUAE admits support for keyboard, virtual mouse and joystick, it allows to record and to recover, and it has sound (although this it is an aspect that is improving). 5.x needs PalmOS (processor ARM) and much dynamic memory (UDMH). One has tried on successfully in Tungsten T3, Zodiac 1 and Zodiac 2.

We can see the AmigaOS working in a Palm in these videos that a user has recorded and raised YouTube:

In this other video it even teaches how haconfigurado to the UDMH and the MyUAE to us so that everything works perfectly. Also we can see the virtual keyboard, that he is exact to the one of an Amiga:

Certainly a profit is everything to make work the software written for the Amiga in a PC, reason why to make it work in a Palm is something really incredible. You do not lose this opportunity to prove it.

To install Java, Gmail and Juegos Java in Palm equipment

The subject of the installation of Java in the Palm never has been too clear, and although we have seen that there is a virtual machine Java For Palm, and detailed how to install it to her and the Java programs, to have it more clearly I recommend to you to visit blog of I read, where it has written up a tutorial where some trick is detailed that will make us leave victorious our fight with Java in PalmOS. And as review of Gmail for Palm machines connects bonus us to one, that will work once installed the virtual machine Java.

Commonly the installation of the virtual machine Java in Palm is something latoso, has to unload it of its Web, to decompress, to choose archives, to make Hotsync, etc…

In order to avoid that roll I let in unloading the virtual machine to them Java for Palm that does not need to settle via Hotsync, they copy it from the SD and only they execute the installer and ready, this will make the trick…

The installer of the virtual machine Java will do everything by us
The installer of the virtual machine Java will do everything by us

Once installed correctly the virtual machine Java, you can take advantage of it to install the excellent navigator Web Opera Mini, the map of the public transport of Santiago of Chile that recommends MrAnderson, or even try to write some application in Java for Palm.

Since it is not clear that in the future this virtual machine Java for PalmOS it continues being available in the page of Inc. Palm I have lodged, it here you prune so that it to unload: JVM.zip.

Vintage modding: 8Mb of ram in a Palm III, Palm Pilot, PalmV, M100, Viewfinder…

Mixture of moding and collecting is what we were in this page where is explained how to install 8Mb of ram in a Palm III, model that brings only 2Mb of factory.

Mod consists of replacing the memory chip in the plate
Mod consists of replacing the memory chip in the plate

Palm III comes with PalmOS 3 and 2Mb from memory. One made with two types of memory module. In order to know which has installed an apparatus in particular, we can visit this page. In case of taking “new” modules DRAM, it is possible to be modified to have until 8Mb. If it only takes the old woman modules of type SRAM it will be able to raise 4Mb.

In this same page we can find connections to other modifications:

There are connections to more information available about modifications of PDAs in this section of the page. So if you have an old PDA and you are small hands with the soldering iron, this one is a tuna project to do a good completion to him.
