Using the Palm to create and manage good passwords (and II)
After the post yesterday, we already know how to choose good passwords. But if that is safe, we have to have so many and so hard to remember how can we not managed to stop using them on the third day of boredom? So very easy, using one of the many specific programs that exist for these duties for the Palm.
The advantages are manifold. By using the Palm to save our passwords we will always at hand and in a place known, which did not always lose and have to relocate the Palm above will be available. In addition, we save having to remember. Incidentally, can carry more important information, like bank account numbers, phone numbers private, and any other confidential information. And the keys can be organized by categories, in order to avoid disorder.
Furthermore, although someone will have access to our PDA, you can not take them, as these programs prohibit access by unauthorized users who do not let us be us through a global password. So we reduce the problem to memorize them all, to memorize one, which therefore may be much more complex. And since we're not going to have to remember, these programs include the option to automatically create random passwords very secure when we need a new one.
After hearing their usefulness, comment on the programs that I have liked most of those who've tried it:
- As always, the first option is free software. But in this case about: how can we trust the security of a program (not that we want to allow access to information without knowing the password global, that has no back doors, etc.), if no one can see how it's done? Therefore, I recommend keyring. Is an easy to use, available in Spanish. Can write a text along with the password (for any related information that we need to have on hand). Have the generator of random passwords who spoke earlier with a lot of options to secure passwords that are totally random or speakers, we choose the size that includes only alphanumeric characters or symbols, and so on. Uses the encryption algorithm Triple DES, with 112-bit keys, making it very safe. A truly comprehensive program.
- Another free program, though not free, which I liked is Yaps. It's much easier with less functionality than keyring, but only in exchange occupies 61KB, which for older computers can be an advantage. It uses encryption Blowfish 256 bits.
- Finally also recommend SplashID.
Published: Delagua I have been warned in comments that SplashID is not free. I downloaded it a few months ago in a temporary promotion, which offered the registered version, but has again become shareware version, limited to 30 days of use. Anyway not erase what I wrote about him, for if someone finds it of interest.
Although the full version, which includes program for Palm and PC (to enter data more easily), it is commercial, I discovered by chance that if you just downloaded to the Palm version is completely free. It includes the same password generator that keyring, which is a point in its favor. It is aesthetically more carefully, with the possibility of assigning icons to the various categories, and allows you to edit the types of information to store, customizing the data fields, so as to have such a kind "bank" with fields "account number" and " secret number "and so on. Which was used until I discovered keyring, and I think also a good program. It uses the Blowfish encryption algorithm.

Keyring uses a powerful encryption algorithm

Splash is more colorful and customizable
I strongly recommend testing three for deciding which you should, because we all met well with his role. Now you have no excuse for using weak passwords recommended, as always, thanks to the great benefit of our Palm. And for those who are as confused as I do, these programs saved us many times to lose the morning because our data did not remember to enter any account that we need to use.

Hi Mark, says: "I discovered by chance that if you just downloaded to the Palm version is completely free"
I use the keyring, but its clear appearance leaves much to be desired and I have just downloaded the version of SplashID for Palm, but when you upload to the prc T3, I get the message "This trial expires in 30 days" and I asks a registration code, so I think this is not free, do you have downloaded it wrong? Will it work after 30 days when the trial period expires?
A greeting
I took quite a while using keyring, and the truth is that is I liked most. Before using another who was also very good, I think it is called strip, but now only use the keyring.
Delagua, a few weeks ago ¿months? I read the news that the SplashID for Palm became free. I downloaded it and it was. I had installed since then.
Now to investigate for the post, not again find no mention of the free version, so I went back to download and install it on top. And still playing.
What may be the explanation: that the version that got off when it was free have been registered with the program on my Palm, and now even install the trial version, continues to operate as registered.
I'm going to completely uninstall and reinstall the SplashID to check. If it is no longer free, as in reflejaré blog. Thanks for the warning
Sap, I too am delighted with the keyring. Besides being free, I like this way of stating whether I can access the content encrypted or not, by candadito that comes in the corner.
To my taste programs, the simpler the better.
Delagua, you're right. After reinstalling it completely, I said it was a version for 30 days. Thank you for saying.
Thanks for the articles (I and II). I just download the keyring and is simple and practical. Just what is asked for his role.
My keys and passwords were beginning to be a problem and this helps me comes in handy.
a greeting
I am glad that you have served, Manuel.
