What to do if your Palm with NVFS one day does not start…

This information will save an attack of nerves more than one. I myself have gone through something similar: I installed UMDH in my Tungsten E2, after several days of use without problems, in a reset the PDA does not start. Salo PALM logo and then, a ROD flashing white background in black, and hence no longer happening. For many things that I tried, I was not able to fix it by any means. Having NVFS, to stop the battery information is not lost. So expect to be emptied was not a solution. Or so I thought ...

My E2 was under warranty, so I took her to the store where purchased and sent to U.S. to fix. In the end, should not be capable of and I sent my E2 with all the new circuitry, the casing was only the original. The after-sales service Palm gave me very good image, the truth. But I was without it for a whole month while the arrangement, when a month ago just buy it.

The same happened to me with UMDH can happen to overclock the CPU over their posibildades, and surely there will be more ways that Palm is dead. With older models, hoping to completely deplete the battery, we produced erase the memory, and remaining in the state that comes from factory, ie running. But models with NVFS use flash memory, so even if po remain without battery is not lost information (in fact this is their main advantage). So does the only option is to send technical service?

It turns out to be none. I have read the case of a person who managed to repair it. And the conclusion is that while the Palm with NVFS maintain data in flash memory while the battery runs out, there is another part of the RAM memory that is normal, and that if we hope for an end to the battery, also lost data, Palm and re-boot. This whole issue of different types of memory, as explained in this post, so to better understand why this solution have the necessary information.

This is an excerpt of the thread of the forum. Those who are in the same problem, and want to know all the details, they can read it here whole.

I pressed the reset button, and the screen turned off, as usually when I reset.

But then I waited, and it did not come back on! It did not reset. And now my palm is totally unresponsive. No number of resetting would get it to turn back on. Nothing .. Sad

The only response I get is when I plug in the USB cable, only to get a message from windows "USB Device Not Recognized. One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it."

And here is the part you're all waiting for ... it's a Tungsten E2!

So, I did not call Palm support.

I left my dear palm alone for six days. So, I just tried to turn it on and reset and got nothing. Also, connecting the hotsync cable no longer gave me an error on my PC, so I decided the battery was drained for sure.

I connected the HotSync cable and the charge cable ... and in a couple seconds, the screen turned Exclamation ON SUCH a relief after I was sure my palm was dead. It turned on without me even pushing anything. Dmitry Thank you so much for guiding me through it while I was hysterical.

Something odd though: When it came on, I saw that warpspeed was still there on the ram (no memory card inserted). I thought when the battery ran out the ram was cleared? Anyways, did a hard reset, and I'll wait for more testing to be done on warpspeed on the E2 before trying it again.

Summary of the final solution:

  • Allow the battery drains completely. This may take about 6 days.
  • To check whether cargo is still, connect the PDA to the computer with the USB cable. If the computer detects it, it has not yet been completely emptied the battery.
  • When no longer detected, RAM will be erased, and with it the programme / configuration preventing our Palm boot.
  • Connect the USB cable and the power to the Palm. This after a while, should boot normally.
  • Clear causing the problem.

If someone looks at this situation, and this method work for you, please confirm this in the comments. The same holds true for any doubts that you may have.
