What are you "lost" by being user of PalmOS
Today I found a very interesting article on what we "lose" PalmOS users to not use a PocketPC with Windows Mobile. I am of the opinion that each device needs various different covers, so one should not despise anyone. But this time I gave up, and I have translated here, because it is quite right.
No matter how long you've been a user of PalmOS, which always change your handheld is a matter of simple human nature to consider, at least, the idea of switching to Windows Mobile. The next time this happens to you, there are some things you should know.
There are no teams at the basic level, because the hardware requirements
Simply there is no way to make a PocketPC handheld for less than $ 200. The last device that I can remember who tried to reach the market more economical, was the iPAQ rz1715. It cost $ 280 when it debuted and most people will immediately rejected by the degradation of performance and insufficient memory. Anyone who intends to take its first PocketPC with Windows, can only dream of achieving something like a Palm Z22 for $ 99.
Better learn to love Outlook
When you unpack your Palm and you install the desktop software, one of the first questions that you will do is what program you want to sync with your data. For the PocketPC users are not given that option. If you are going to use a PocketPC with Windows, it will be much better than you like Outlook. As purchases, is the only option. If you want to do something crazy (how to synchronize your handheld with your Macintosh) will have to simply buy a third-party program.
To my way or highway
If you own a model made by Palm in recent years, I assume you are familiar sight in the implementation of Agenda Calendar. It combines a list of your appointments, tasks and email messages without reading. Let's be honest, this is robbed of sight "Today" from the PocketPC. The problem with the implementation of Microsoft, is that the screen is essentially Today metida to force. It is a useful way to see some important information, but the PocketPC facilities if we do not give preference to do otherwise. This is an area where graduates of Windows Mobile have had to fill in the gaps in what Microsoft has done. Many (though not all) include an application that simulates the essence of the Palm Launcher. This is true only for Pocket PCs. If you're using a device that runs Microsoft's operating system for smartphones, I think you have no other option but to use the Today screen.
Someone said that the software should be easy to use
When was the last time you synchronize your Palm with the PC and all your files were deleted? I'm not talking only about the handheld, but also from the PC. This picture of nightmare, though not common, it happens from time to time to users of PocketPC. Fortunately, after many years, Microsoft has finally managed to fix most of the bugs ActiveSync, although there are still veterans PocketPC users who feel nausea always make an ActiveSync, to remember when, long ago, a pile of documents were lost without unrecoverable no apparent reason. And I will not get to talk about the Connection Manager.
It is not a call to arms
To conclude, I wish to make clear that I do not think that Windows Mobile devices are incurably defective. That position would obviously be counterproductive, considering that I've written many editorials in the past to ask PalmSource add many of the features of Windows Mobile to PalmOS. But after all that I have recently written editorials criticizing PalmOS, I would not like to think that I believe that competition is perfect. As I explained here, has enough problems. PalmOS and Windows Mobile have their weaknesses and their strengths. The best advice I can give, to choose between the two, is investigating and choose which best suits your needs.

Superb article. I got it from the Palm TX, I have NEVER synchronized with a PC with Windows. I do not need to synchronize anything, from the Palm itself can surf the Internet, download this program, uncompress it and install it in memory. If I want to save my data on the agenda can make a backup to the memory card. That's freedom. It could happen that would not have a computer and the Palm alone could surf the Internet, see the post office, write in my blog, Documents created in Word, Excel and e-mail, install programs. Well, the truth is that as each device is tell Marcos to meet different needs. But we must recognize that Palm does not tied to any technology or any particular platform.
Very good article. I totally agree with the statement in your article. Many times we complain users of Palm when we compare our machines with the PPC-level benefits, but if you look coldly software that carry our pda's no hardware that requires more leads. Also, if something like the Palm, is that there is no need to synchronize with your Outlook (personally I prefer the thunderbird).
Greetings and remains so, Mark.
I see that the island we have very clear why we like both our teams.
Myself I synchronize to download the news with Sunrise, but if not I will never agree to do so. Following Murphy's law, but I like knowing that I have my things in a backup of the SD and the PC, because you never know. But look I've done perrerías with E2, and I never lost my calendar or my notes.
As for the independence of using Palm ... just say that I decided to Palm among other things because synchronize beautifully with the Evolution, when used Gentoo Linux. Ah! For those who prefer Thunderbird, got a little surprise.
The hotsync in my case has never failed (in my Mac), and 2 or 3 times that has happened has been for the PC to which I synchronize, anyway a backup folder on your PC NVbackup give me peace of conscience.
My dad has a Dell PocketPC that you usually play all-you-delete-no-tell, because in those days I will give my E2.
PS: the number of formats to be able to export user data from Palm Desktop has saved me from certain.
Buenazo the post-Marcos!

Actually, that's courage. It is not the 1st time that I know of someone who does not synchronize the Palm with a PC, but it is the 1st that I know of someone who exploits the depth as the 2 things (Palm and PC) and also supports all in a resource storage . Maybe your example and is just the next step in personal computing. Hint: as you connect your Palm to the Internet, think of all your info back into a network hard drive, if not by necessity, just to make life easier, or for spiritual peace. I hope to get to your level.
Many times I have heard the discussion Palm OS / Pocket PC and the first thing you notice is that with everything you say about the Palm OS and that his is more outdated that the flint ax, as the OS has not changed in almost a decade and look how many people use it, say what they say in the world is Palm PDAs (I think that 38 million devices sold in this platform, and the account continues). Meanwhile, on the other side of the ring, the Pocket PC OS have changed several times: Windows CE, Pocket PC, Windows Mobile for, and every time you put more stuff to look like Christmas tree; are you became more nimble, more practical? NO. Well, cheaper? Less. OK, more reliable? Read the commentary / Marc to see if they cause any grace to lose his agenda in a crisis of digital amnesia, I take the CFP that and I eat a bullet.
In my Z22 I had to do a Hard Reset about 25 ~ 30 times since I bought it (27/sep/2007), look at the date of my comment. And all have been my fault. True, the Palm OS he would appreciate some details, but all that I can think of are nothing more than to iron out burrs. Just as I was served to 100.
Sincerely, Mark.
