Robot with a brain for Palm
Every day I am surprised that more applications can give a Palm. Since its use provides a high-powered computing in a small, two teams of robotics institute of Carnegie Mellon have developed the Palm Pilot Robot Kit. It is an autonomous robot, easy to construct, whose "brain" is a Palm.

The Palm connects via serial port
The robot uses the Palm to sense its environment and move through it. The basic three-wheel mounted omni that allow complete freedom of movement. In fact explained that his movement is holonomic, that is, they can control their movement at a time of translation and rotation. It also incorporates three optical proximity sensors, which allow you to "see" at a distance of up to one meter. You can see the robot moving and avoiding obstacles in these two small videos. We can find more technical information here.
In the project page we found all the documentation needed to build our own robot. The materials are easy to come by, and the assembly requires only glue, tape, and a little welding. The software is free and can be compiled on any PC to install it on the Palm. For those not interested in mounting it from scratch, there is a fast-mounting kit for which only need a screwdriver. We can see the simple assembly of a sequence of images. To send suggestions, questions, etc., you can contact them by email or on the mailing list.
In short, straightforward robotics project but that allows us to do lots of testing with it, given the versatility that gives the right to have a Palm as a platform to develop the control software. All of a gift for lovers of robotics.
