Confessions of an engineer at Volkswagen
This morning, as always reading my blog for the Palm bloglines I found in Diariomotor.com a story that is part of a diary written by an employee of R & D of Volkswagen. I quote:
This gentleman, we detailed the process of designing and manufacturing that are still in the plants of VW, apart from the crowd of internals own industrial world. Following their statements, we can discover the comprehensive quality control of the assembly line, the rustic solutions to many problems, many of the whys fallosÂ? indeed, the engineer in question, we do not recommend buying a car just out to the MARKETPLACE? another brand, of course.
I've begun to read and I have not stopped until completion. Is packed with very interesting information. I include some excerpts that you do an idea of what counts:
But this takes time! You can not do 300,000 km in a week, and it is a question of learning the lessons before they retire the model. VW solves that, among other things, with the Hydropulse. Take a drive from the point of Count 8, upload it to a platform that has a hydraulic cylinder below each wheel. Following a computer program, the hydropulse struck the wheels of the car at random simulating something like going down a path of goats to 80 per hour. It's really impressive to see! There you have a New Beetle convertible with leather seats, CD-changer, heated at the wheel ... jumping like crazy in all directions. The noise was indescribable, and every 25 hours stop going to see this as proof.
After three days the body begins to crack. But we do not want to finish as quickly, so you put a crack in the welding for not extending more. And the fucking machine boot again. The seats get more and more slack (let's see if a pt time approving the change to the seats that are going to back with a crowbar instead of this odious wheel), the windshield crack (these are created by Karmann that using the glass front as part of the structure is a good idea. Hopefully, the owners of this model and slowly lead motorway), the mirrors fall (which will make them even more pequenyos ???), and you keep giving Cany. After 180 or 200 hours the car was finally part to the media. Well ... It was nice while it lasted! A forklift removed the car and it leads to compaction as well as this, with CDs and everything, and turns it into a cube of metal to be merged to make FERRALLES for formwork. And another thing.
If the bug affects any system related to security (such as train rolling, or abs or ...), dany can cause permanent damage to the car or the occupants (fire, etc ...) the solution is implemented immediately to all cars. The revisions (Asi nor whole) or by calling all cars to revision mandatory. This is expensive to make and Danya brand image, say what you say, so only if it becomes necessary. I've been involved in two calls to review and I assure you that it is an earthquake that shook the entire brand. For example, one of them by an epidemic of more than fifty fires in the New Beetle due to a foot of the tray on the battery. Had already been changed twice because they cut the cord positive. Had already made two proposals to change to plastic, but not passed the crash test (the drummer Salia flying). To not frighten said it was the air conditioning ... Jajaja. Things in life. If it does not affect safety, but VW loses money, we have to work the clock to get a solution so that may give the Aftersales cambiazo to parts latosas. As I said, or you whole.
If Vw does not lose money (say it is a fault which is repeated with a low incidence) is amended in the next MY. If you have not got the car and damaged property. If you have damage and you have warranty, you change your piece for the new. If you have not got the damage and warranty, you GT
In VW we are, as they say, engaged in a process of continuous improvement. Any person (the director, secretary, the the cleanliness of Senyora) can make suggestions to improve the cars, the process for making cars, or to save money. And, not to wane, there is a monetary reward for each proposal submitted. The trick is, give you money to make proposals only if the item is not your responsibility. If not, I would make more money with more rewards than with my salary! So the 17,500 employees of this plant we drown in proposals each week, and we have to evaluate each and every one. Some (very few, jejeje ... We have to make the necessary) are simply awesome. As one who took 16,500 dollars by proposing that cars are manufactured with only three screws at each wheel. When the car reaches the U.S., he said, the importer makes a bolt lock on each wheel. The screw is pulled away. Each screw it costs 0.3 dollars. Sell half million cars to anyo there. 500.000x0.3x4 anyo = 600,000 dollars to save us without doing NOTHING!
If you have time leedlo whole. It is worthwhile for all the things he explains.
