Winamp or control the WMP from the Palm

In his day, and there was talk here of the project Giantdisk: Audio Jukebox, which lets you use any PC as a media player, with all our music stored, and control it from the Palm distance via bluetooth. This solution required to install Linux on the PC, and this may be an impediment to the time to get out of mount, for those who have not ever worked with this system. Therefore, there is a possibility of achieving the same thing with a Windows PC and Winamp or Windows Media Player installed. Mainly there are two possibilities: BTAmp and TouchAmp.

BTAmp is designed to control Winamp or Windows Media Player via bluetooth, but can also be done by infrared or serial port, and even wifi (I'm not sure, I have not tested). It consists of two parts: the application that is installed on the Palm, and a program, Bemused that is installed on the PC, and received orders from the Palm to control Winamp accordingly. Installation is simple:

  • Download the latest version of BTAmp, which brings everything included. It is a shareware program, it displays an annoying message every once in a while if you do not register. The problem is that the author has failed to deal with this program, so it is not possible to register. Therefore, I made available the "registered" in BTAmp to download here (this is what I understand, if someone confirms this, remove this download).
  • Of course, the first thing you have to do is install the Winamp in our computer. There is a free version that has no time limitation and is loaded with options. Personally, I recommend the heavy on the Windows Media Player.
  • We install the Palm BTAmp in the normal mode, with a hotsync.
  • Then copy the ficrero BemusedServer.exe on a hard drive, where they want. Execute it, and we ask the version of Winamp we are going to control the path of the file (eg "C: \ Winamp \ Winamp.exe"), the route of our music files (eg "D: \ My Music ") And the port to use. The latter requires an explanation. Bluetooth allows you to create virtual serial ports, which since the programs are seen as normal serial ports (but really are on bluetooth, over the air). So we will have to open the Windows configuration of bluetooth (this iconito beside the clock in the system tray) and choose the COM Ports tab. Hence we create a new port call, and we aim to give the name (for example COM3). That name is what we need to give it to Bemused. COM3 wrote verbatim (or number that is in our case). And to start this server, click on Connect button.
  • Now we just have to run the BTAmp at the Palm, and we can control it from the Winamp: raising and lowering the volume, move the instant playback, edit the song list, and so on.

The BTAmp is a little latoso. The first time you may need several tries to successfully connect to the PC via Bluetooth. But then it works beautifully.

BTAmp can control many features of Winamp

The other option to control Winamp is designed for PDAs oldest, who only have connectivity for serial port (cable). It's called TouchAMP. The installation is similar: a program that runs on your PC (the file ml_touchamp.dll) and another in the Palm. The PC is a plugin for Winamp, so I have to copy into the Plugins folder (eg "C: \ Winamp \ Plugins"). The first time you start Winamp, we asked the software setup: serial port, path of our music, everything Like the BTAmp). I could not prove it because my Tungsten E2 connects via USB, not through the serial port, but it is an interesting option for those who have this type of PDAs.

That's all. With these programs can control the music being played in our computer from Palm, without having to get up from where we are. Or even have a small computer without a screen or keyboard function cone jukebox, and control it from the Palm.
