Motherhood and how we can help Palm

Today the blog plays a nice theme. At the suggestion of Luiz in the remarks of previous post, I have collected information on programs for our Palm assist us in monitoring the baby during pregnancy, and the care of it after birth. As always, I tried to offer options that are open source, so that the boy (or girl) come to a world that is a little more free.

  • Contraction Timer: This is a utility meter to monitor contractions in pregnant women. The author says that when his wife expecting their second child, a friend used the letters of your Palm to keep track of contractions. Of course, this involved a certain math, and says as well when one is concerned about the birth, it is easy to make mistakes. When a downturn occurs, simply click on a button (or big, no need for the stylus) when it begins, and again when finished, and the program takes care of everything else. It also allows you to write notes to point everything we need. The data can be exported to the Notes to later revise on the PC, and even in CSV for import into OpenOffice Calc or MS Excel, to make charts and graphs.

  • BabyCheck: This program allows us to manage all information about our baby weight and height during the first three months; list of the first words and actions; list of vaccines, weight, height, date and hour of birth, among others. It also allows you to export the data into a format readable by spreadsheet program. It supports high-resolution devices and is translated into several languages, including Spanish.

  • Controlling the weight of the baby

  • APGAR score: Scoring APGAR (Appearance Press Grimace Activity Respiration Scoring) is a method used to rate on a scale of 0 to 10, the physical condition of the newborn, to decide if you need medical care or not. Must be done to the minute of birth, and consists in valoracienes add up, on a scale from 0 to 2, each of the following characteristics: appearance (skin color), pulse, reflex to a stimulus (irritability) , Muscle tone and breathing, according to the following table:

  • Pregnancy Calculator estimates, as of last menstrual period: date of conception, end of the first quarter, second and third, and date of birth. In addition to the page of its creator, Dr. Michael J. Verive two programs are rather designed to help doctors to be responsible for these items: PedBase + is a database with more than 550 diseases and symptoms related to pediatrics, while Picutools is a mixture of database of medicines, reference laboratory values and several medical calculators for use in pediatric intensive care.
  • Going into the proprietary programs, is a very complete HeyBaby. It integrates a lot of features: control of ovulation, to decide the best time to get pregnant; approximate date of birth and messages every day with tips, a weekly compilation of height and weight of the baby, a glossary of terms related to motherhood, and some other stuff.
  • Finally, another program is complete but owner Pregnancy assistant. Calculate the estimated date of delivery, reports the current week of pregnancy; allows record the beginning and end of the contractions, calculating averages and frequencies automatically distinguishes contractions Braxton Hicks contractions and real, to avoid false alarms, we can define a threshold length of contractions (our doctor will tell us which one), and the program will notify us when they exceed, and can store the phone number of your doctor for emergencies.

With this collection we already have software where to start. But surely there are many more programs. To suggest that one is interesting, you have the comments as always at your disposal.
