Skype for PalmOS

For more than them even though mobile operators, the future of voice communications through the use of wireless technologies like Wi-Fi and WiMAX, combined with systems for voice over IP (VoIP) services like Skype, Gizmo or Google Talk , In which the only cost is that of the transmitted data. At last, this technology is available for devices with Palm OS operating system, thanks to MobiVoIP.

In PDAMexico have tested this program, and the verdict is positive:

The service mobiVoIP is divided into 2 parts, free accounts only allow you to make calls to users of mobiVoIP and accounts payable that allow you to make long distance calls using mobiVoIP servers to connect to POTS (Plain Old Telephone Systems or rather the phone lines that we all know). The accounts of 'Beta Testers' (as far as I know) just let you make calls to' echo server 'which allows you to test the service, quality and speed of the call and send it to voice the' echo server "retransmited the so that the user can listen and verify the time lag in sending and receiving voice.

[...] I've done several llamdas and the service is quite good to be evidence, obviously has its lapses of 1 or 2 seconds to establish the connection between users but we are talking about PDAs and also relies heavily on the connection speed with which have the two sides.

Low QoS tells us that we have little bandwidth to be able to make calls. Although the images are displayed Treos, none of the calls using air time or a telephone operator's appeal to have these devices.

The best thing about this is that you do not need a Treo to connect to the Internet but you can use a variety of PDAs with Palm OS to be able to use the service as could be a Tungsten C, Tungsten T3, Life Drive, Tungsten T5 or a Tungsten TX.

MobiVoIP connections can work with bluetooth, wifi or EVDO. The only problem is that to make free calls, the person you call also has to take MobiVoIP installed, but many people are using other programs voice over ip as we discussed at first. The solution seems to be on the way: in blog TamsPalm can read how the company EQO plans to develop a transport agent for Skype for Palm OS devices. What makes this agent is an intermediary between the program and the Skype network. EQO has already developed similar to other Windows Mobile and J2ME (Java Virtual Machine), so the rumor has a high probability of being true. We can be aware of the development of this project by subscribing here, and the list of supported devices inform us of the progress that is going to occur.

So in summary, in a short time: if you have a Palm with built-in microphone and an Internet connection, you free voice calls to Skype users and MobiVoIP, and calls at very low prices with traditional phones.
