Synchronization of podcasts from PC to PDA

Zebus says in his blog that has been busy these days preparing a comprehensive document that explains how it is organized to download podcasts that normally listens to your PDA, and it automatically sorting them by date of download. As noted, each will have their own personal way to do this, but I've been reading and his method is really well thought out, so I strongly recommend that you read it in stride, I for my part I will try it this afternoon.

Before continuing, for which you may know exactly who are the podcast, you can read what Wikipedia says about them, or this post in which he discussed the issue of listening to our Palm pocdcasts. The method can be summarized in the following steps:

  • Synchronization juice: this program, as already explained, is responsible for monitoring the RSS feeds of podcasts, and download new audio files in a directory on your hard disk according to become available.
  • Descent: Juice is charged automatically to download the files for us. In the next steps and we will discriminate files according to their date of discharge.
  • Capture player program with Windows media player with the help of Real Player create a playlist with the files you want to be synchronized. For example, downloaded in the past two days.
  • Eligiendo el criterio para sincronizar archivos
Choosing the approach to synchronize files

  • Edition of the album: a part of synchronizing the audio files, we can create albums that include podcasts are downloaded every day, to have them organized by date, rather than all mixed together without any order.
  • Connecting the PDA as a hard drive: When you connect the LifeDrive (Zebus used for this example), how to activate the disc, Palm appears on the computer as an external storage device. For other models of Palm, we know we can achieve the same thing in different ways.
  • Synchronization of the mp3 files: When the computer detects it, gives us an option to automatically synchronize the new podcasts downloaded, according to the preferences that we have assigned to the playlist.
  • Start with Pocket Tunes: Zebus has chosen as the Pocket Tunes music player on the Palm. Coincidentally is also the one I use. We opened the program and let encientre new chapters.
  • PocketTunes es un excelente reproductor de audio
PocketTunes is an excellent audio player

  • Album Search: go to the option of opening files, and chose as a place to look for All. This is where Pocket Tunes stands out because, using the ID3 tags of your files, we will organize songs by artist, genre ... and also by album, which are those that we have created in the previous steps.
  • Select a day: once we have sorted the files by album, and we can choose the podcasts of the day we want. If you choose Select All podcasts added that day to the playlist, and automatically start playing the first.
  • Markers in Pocket Tunes: the markers are a feature of the Deluxe version of Pocket Tunes. Allow us to save on a list of points playing our audio files. For example, if we have to stop listening to a podcast, we can save the point where we left off as a marker, so that you can retrieve it later without any problems, but we've played another audio file by the way, or has lost the point because 've accidentally pressed a button.

As you see, not Zebus has left no loose, and the result is an automatic and rapid synchronize podcasts with our Palm, with the addition of take them organized by date. Zebus thanks for the excellent article. I strongly recommend that you visit and what you read in stride, because everything is explained in more detail than this summary, with many catches and pictures to make the process easier to follow.
