Solve the incopatibilidad between Nokia phones and some Palm

Connecting to your Palm with a mobile phone using bluetooth (provided that both devices have this technology) is doable without installing additional software, and easy to configure. The possibilities of this system include being able to call a phone number dialing from our Palm, without removing the phone from the pocket to call a contact from the Calendar application, if we have this number in your data, use the GPRS connection (or otherwise) of the phone to access the internet from the Palm, and to write and send messages SMS from your Palm.

However, if given the following scenario:

  • Palm is the Tungsten T3, Tungsten T, Tungsten T2, Tungsten T3 or Zire 72, or use the external card bluetooth Palm.
  • And the mobile is a model of Nokia problematic as the 6021, 6230i or 6820.

Then the score of phone numbers and SMS management program will not work. However, other Palm models like the T5, the E2 and Lifedrive, however, have no problem.

But if we have the misfortune of being in the previous situation, we must not give up on him. Gaspar, who had this problem, has suggested this tutorial in which a person in the same situation detailing how he was mulling over the difference between the T3 and T5, until he finally found the solution: copy the files carefully for T5 bluetooth stack and bluetooth manager, at T3. Then install the latest version of Phone Link program, and was finally able to connect seamlessly with your Nokia. But let's see it step by step:

  • First of all, as always tear up the system files on the Palm, is make sure we have a backup of our data. If something goes wrong, and we have to do a hard reset, we lose what we have not previously saved.
  • As we saw in other posts similar, Palm programs often end with an underscore and two letters, which indicate the language for which they were intended. For example, if we want to copy the programs in Spanish, we must find the ending in "_en".
  • The first step is to match your mobile phone with the Palm. This process is straightforward and is detailed in the instructions.
  • Then we go to our Nokia, and we sailed through the menus: Menu -> Settings -> Connectivity -> Bluetooth -> Paired devices. Then select our Palm (which we have previously paired) and click Options and then Auto-conn without confirmation, to choose the value Yes.
  • We download this file (if the link does not work, I've posted here too) and extract its contents. These files are for a Palm that is in Spanish. In the case of another language, we must obtain a T5.
  • Copy the following files in our Palm:

Published: As it says Gaspar, who encountered the problem when he had to follow these steps, you can not copy files directly to the RAM of the Palm through a hotsync (we will return an error). We copy them extansión card for later, using a file manager like Filez, copy of the card to RAM.

    • BtCommVdrv.prc
    • BtCommVdrv_esES.prc
    • BtExgLib.prc
    • BtExgLib_esES.prc
    • BtExt.prc
    • BtLib.prc
    • BtLib_esES.prc
    • BtManager.prc
    • BtManager_esES.prc
    • BtManPnl.prc
    • BtManPnl_esES.prc
    • BtStack.prc

The following files should not be copied, or we will be forced to do a hard reset:

    • BtTransport.prc
    • BtTransport_esES.prc
    • BtExgLibDB.pdb
  • Now we do a soft reset of the Palm, that loads into memory the new bluetooth stack that we just installed. After this, download and unzip the Palm version 3 Phoma Link either Palm's page or here (alternate download). We have to install on the Palm directory the following files PhoneLink Application:

    • PhoneLink.prc
    • PhoneLink_esES.prc

    And PhoneLink Drivers directory files:

    • MoHiSp1Lib.prc
    • NMSCPT.prc
    • PMHDB.pdb
    • PMNDB.pdb
    • UPDD.prc

We must not install any files in the LDAP directory PhoneLink Additional Drivers, as they are not needed.

  • We do a soft reset to load this program. We start the Phone Link application and configure your phone. For example, we selected the Nokia brand and model 6230. Connected via Bluetooth, select your phone from the list of devices, and also configured as a default connection for telephony applications. If we want, we can use to configure the way our GPRS connection.

That's it. Our Palm can be connected via bluetooth to your mobile phone Nokia without problems.
