Palm connect to the internet via the USB cable
We already know how to connect to the Internet through our Palm bluetooth. But not all Palm incorporate this technology. This is no problem, since it is equally feasible to use the USB cable that comes from the factory, to perform the same task.

We just need the USB cable that came with the Palm
The difference is that if we could connect by bluetooth without the need for an additional program to connect via USB you need a driver PPP third of that, in addition, will be paid, because I have not found a way to do it with free software or for free. The programs that we use are three:
- Plug2net: Lets make the connection between the PC and PDA both via USB, for serial, infrared (IrDA) and even bluetooth.
- Mocha W32 PPP: now is free, but only for connections COM ports, namely serial and bluetooth. Therefore does not support USB.
- Softick PPP: PPP another driver for Windows, which allows our Palm connect via USB cable, infrared or bluetooth.
To illustrate the process I have decided to use Softick PPP, as it appears to be the most actively is being held today.
- Before installing the program, we must ensure that the Palm USB driver is correctly installed, that is, we can do a hotsync without problems. It is also advisable to have already installed the Palm Desktop. Having established this, we can download the program and install it on your PC and any other application.
- During the installation will ask if you want to use the USB connection in shared mode (which allows you to make a hotsync with the PPP-up) or unique (can not be done while the hotsync running program). If we use a recent version of Palm Desktop, we will have no problems in using the shared mode (we can always change it later in the program options, if you give us problems).
- Once installed, execute it and a iconito in the system tray near the clock. We click right on it, and choose Settings. Of all the options that appear, only to be configured are the addresses of DNS. With a little luck we can let the program run in automatically, and simply click Test. If it works, we can already click OK. If not, simply to introduce the hand. The DNS will be the same as those of our connection to the Internet.
- Now we have to configure the internet connection on the Palm. The process is simple: let's options in the Network Preferences program, and create a new connection with a username and password blank, and type of Base or cable.
- Details click and configure the connection type to PPP, waiting time for idle what we want (for example Never), and automatic DNS if we set earlier in the program. IP also automatically assigned to the program for us.

Creating a new connection

Setting up the connection type
And with these steps because we have the Palm list to connect to the Internet. Now connect the USB cable, as if we were to make a hotsync, but we do not. We make sure the program you have installed on your computer is turned on the PPP, and press the button to connect to the Palm. It should connect without problems. We already have our Palm with internet access, ready to surf the Web, download e-mails, make a hotsync by network, and so on.

This can be done with a palm Z22, my question is because I'm about to buy a ..
Thank you
Oswaldo
Hi Oswaldo. In principle there is no problem. Even the oldest Palm, which is connected to the serial port, can use this system. So a Z22 that is so recent, with more reason.
Well, but what else should I do in my pda (Z22) to be able to navigate it and you can do with it ...
We also would like to know how to put a version of office or similar to it and how to save a little room, then I can only 72% and I have not done anything with it ...
I'm sorry but it is nuevon in this issue of the pda ..
Thank you
Oswaldo
Well, let's see if I can help a little.
To connect to the Internet only need to do what is explained in this tutorial: installing the PPP on your PC, and configure your Palm. Through the Internet you can browse (eg Blazer, which surely comes already installed on your Z22, it might be the icon that is called "Web"), receive emails (eg with Versamail), chatting on the MSN (there are programs to this too) and so on.
To be able to work with Word documents, Excel, etc., there is a suite called Documents2Go, the company DataViz. It is in fact, from what I read, more compatible with MS Office PC, which the Word and Excel that comes installed on the PocketPC (Windows Mobile).
Regarding the free space ... the Z22 has no possibility to put an external SD memory card, so the only recommendation I can give is that not install programs "if one day you needed," but what you are going to really need.
Well Thanks for the info, I was looking at my palm and the program does not come Blazer (Web) and then I was looking to complete the setup and I do not appear to choose the PPP sftick I get a box to a different shown here ... and download and install the program on my pc ...
I can help?
aaa and where can I find some of the programs mentioned here.
Thank you
Oswaldo
Well, if you do not have the Blazer installed by default, you have to do with any browser. The Blazer is to pay, but there is free like Opera.
To find software for your Palm, there are a few sites where to look. For example in Softonic: browsers, email clients, and so on.
Regarding the Softick PPP, there is no choice but to be called so, I created myself clicking the New button. You just have to follow the directions step by step, but calmly.
Well already installed the browser correctly, but I was able to establish the connection but I think the words to choose the type of connection will not let me choose between dpi. and then I stopped there.
Look closely at that create the connection, in "Connection" you pick "or basic cable." Then is when you press the button "Details ..." when it comes out "Connection Type" and choose PPP.
The other option is that these menus are different in the Z22, but it seems strange to me.
I give in when I get new connection as follows:
Nomre:
Connect to: / / PC, Modem, Cable
By: / / Base or cable or infrared
Scoreboard: / / TouchTone, Impulses
Volume: / / Low, High, Medium, Off
those are the choices ...
I hope you can help me ...
If those are the options, then it is completely different to my E2.
However, do not despair because the Softick PPP works with the Z22, from version 2.33. Puts it in your page:
[2006-04-07]
Softick PPP with 2.33 Palm Z22 support released!
2.33 Softick PPP support new entry level Palm Z22 Palm organizer. It also contains fixes for bugs few network.
I hope someone with a Z22 can Echarte a hand.
