Palm connect to the internet via the USB cable

We already know how to connect to the Internet through our Palm bluetooth. But not all Palm incorporate this technology. This is no problem, since it is equally feasible to use the USB cable that comes from the factory, to perform the same task.

Sólo necesitamos el cable USB que venía con la Palm
We just need the USB cable that came with the Palm

The difference is that if we could connect by bluetooth without the need for an additional program to connect via USB you need a driver PPP third of that, in addition, will be paid, because I have not found a way to do it with free software or for free. The programs that we use are three:

  • Plug2net: Lets make the connection between the PC and PDA both via USB, for serial, infrared (IrDA) and even bluetooth.
  • Mocha W32 PPP: now is free, but only for connections COM ports, namely serial and bluetooth. Therefore does not support USB.
  • Softick PPP: PPP another driver for Windows, which allows our Palm connect via USB cable, infrared or bluetooth.

To illustrate the process I have decided to use Softick PPP, as it appears to be the most actively is being held today.

  • Before installing the program, we must ensure that the Palm USB driver is correctly installed, that is, we can do a hotsync without problems. It is also advisable to have already installed the Palm Desktop. Having established this, we can download the program and install it on your PC and any other application.
  • During the installation will ask if you want to use the USB connection in shared mode (which allows you to make a hotsync with the PPP-up) or unique (can not be done while the hotsync running program). If we use a recent version of Palm Desktop, we will have no problems in using the shared mode (we can always change it later in the program options, if you give us problems).
  • Once installed, execute it and a iconito in the system tray near the clock. We click right on it, and choose Settings. Of all the options that appear, only to be configured are the addresses of DNS. With a little luck we can let the program run in automatically, and simply click Test. If it works, we can already click OK. If not, simply to introduce the hand. The DNS will be the same as those of our connection to the Internet.
  • Now we have to configure the internet connection on the Palm. The process is simple: let's options in the Network Preferences program, and create a new connection with a username and password blank, and type of Base or cable.
  • Creando una nueva conexión
    Creating a new connection

  • Details click and configure the connection type to PPP, waiting time for idle what we want (for example Never), and automatic DNS if we set earlier in the program. IP also automatically assigned to the program for us.
  • Configuración del tipo de conexión
    Setting up the connection type

And with these steps because we have the Palm list to connect to the Internet. Now connect the USB cable, as if we were to make a hotsync, but we do not. We make sure the program you have installed on your computer is turned on the PPP, and press the button to connect to the Palm. It should connect without problems. We already have our Palm with internet access, ready to surf the Web, download e-mails, make a hotsync by network, and so on.
