Doom, Heretic and Hexen for PalmOS
Continuing with 3D games that have been ported to PalmOS, let's talk about Doom, the game that created school since its launch, and that has been rediscovered by many younger players, following the launch of its third. If Duke Nukem 3D had to stop an alien invasion guinea pig goal was to abduct all the girls on our planet, Doom completely changed the record: we are a Marine assigned to Mars, most notably in a base on the moon Phobos, which has to save the day after a secret experiment by leaving doors dimensional evil, unleashing a flood of provinientes demons of hell himself.

Until hell, and beyond
The tremendous success of Doom made its engine is reused for a sequel Doom II, and two expansions that are of quality and duration similar to the originals: Evilution and plutonium experiment. Indeed, with slight improvements on the engine, was designed a parallel saga, set in a medieval world, consisting of Heretic, the sequel Hexen, and an expansion of it.

Although better graphics, Hexen never been so famous
As I happened to Duke Nukem 3D, the guys from ID Software also decided to release the source code, specifically in 1999, and a little later, Raven Software did the same with the code of Heretic and Hexen, which led to the creation of a large number of ports. To enjoy all their glory in these games, making full use of existing equipment, I recommend testing Doomsday, with an impressive graphic quality, and versions for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X.
In addition to the improvements it introduces itself, we can install all sorts of additions created by fans of these games: the soundtrack remastered in high-quality audio, high-resolution textures, improved graphics for the menus, 3D models to replace the sprites , And so on.

DoomsdayHQ works wonders with these games
But what interests us is that there is also a port of Doom for Palm OS, developed by the same developer who made the Duke Nukem 3D, allowing us to play all the games of the series previously commented. The heap memory requirements are lower, around 3Mb, so as to use Palm model, you may not even need to install UDMH.
When you load the game, you may receive errors such as "can not sys_alloc XXXX bytes". However, doing tap on the screen (as many times as necessary, in my case over 15), continue loading, and if we have enough RAM the game restarted without any problems.
The installation is identical to the port of Duke Nukem 3D: install the file. Prc in the PDA normally, and then create an SD card in the directory / Palm / Programs / ZDoomZ, where we copy the file. Zdk, as well as archives Data from the games (which we can obtain from the PC version of the same). Then ready to copy the files you need to play each of them:
- Doom Shareware: doom1.wad.
- Ultimate Doom: doom.wad.
- Doom II: doom2.wad.
- Evilution: doom2.wad and tnt.wad.
- Plutonium experiment: doom2.wad and plutonia.wad.

Playing Doom on my Tungsten E2
The operation of this port is very similar to that of Duke Nukem 3D. The change I've noticed is that it takes to complete the screen of the PDA, instead of restricting the aspect of the PC screen, as did its predecessor. Features are to highlight the support to vibration in the Zodiac and the Treo, the possibility of using both bluetooth wireless keyboards and by infrared, and support for multiplayer, either through bluetooth or internet (TCP / IP).
By the same token, there is a port of Heretic and Hexen for PalmOS. The memory requirements are 3Mb heap and 4Mb, it also may not need the UDMH.
The facility is also identical: we installed the file. Prc in the PDA normally, and then create an SD card in the directory / Palm / Programs / or ZHeretic / Palm / Programs / ZHeretic, where we copy the file. Zdk, as well as archives Data from the games. The list of the files you need to copy for each of them is:
- Heretic: heretic.wad.
- Hexen: hexen.wad.
- Hexen, Death Knights of the Dark Citadel: hexen.wad and hexdd.wad.

Heretic gave no problems in the E2
The features and operation of these programs are identical to those of ZDoom. And with this we already have a few classic 3D games running on the Palm. In the next post will see the last but not least, this unique game list.

Hi Mark, now that public as to Duke Nukem 3D for PalmOS, remember where he had learned to read and load these games on my PDA ...!
Thanks for these "institutes" that will help us enormity, is someone who would love to read them ....
Everything that I'm going to vitiate has no name ...
I was a fan of DOOM since its first part, like DukeNukem3D (for when the sequel? Jajaja) and the truth is that for many many years but I have not returned to play ...
I've bitten me and I will install ALL!
Marcos, because of you I will be again a hooked
My secret plan to end your productivity will wind in its sails. Muahahaha.
For a while when I want to lay your head resting, I always have to hand these games are the most entertaining.
Excellent for the second time Marcos! I was faithful follower of Doom-like-up comment yesterday as part of the II and whose series ended (juar juar) and the truth is that now play in my TE / 2 would be a very good experience, just mention that when the other files (the. wad) I do not know where to "tattoo" (jeje demons to be in the jargon) I'm going to get, you would not have any consejillo to achieve it. You are quite welcome
The best of RE-discover (or change by RE-play) these titles, is our own memory.
Did not you what has happened to arrive at a site in determining X and a map at that time is passing us by the flash head "because I've been here, recalled that there was a gate there and a ramp over there?"
Like you, I have visited nearly all the worlds in the 1st person of the factory ID (from wolf3d.exe
until Doom III on Xbox) and of course also DN3D (penalty that certainly this long-awaited second part did not come to fruition-that-I remember). What do you say?
I love!
I like the maps to rediscover and re-encounter these enemies who are still there, hiding and waiting to open doors or enter X X sector (lovers of the builder, and where I'm going sabesi) ...
While earnestly now that I have stolen the hearts Half Life 2 for Xbox ... I have to open your mouth:-O (Piece of the Havok engine this, hear).
Sincerely, Hark0
@ David: the "doomed" have owned these games, and continue to make sold, so it can not be considered abandonware. Conclusion: we have spent approximately $ 25 to buy them all in a pack collector, if we are to achieve legally, of course. If you do not just have to say "edonkey." However Heretic, Hexen, and Duke Nukem 3D abandonware it should be, because it found for example in France Abandonware.
Anyway, Doom, Heretic and Hexen are shareware version with the first complete adventure, and can be downloaded for free.
@ Hark0: I also have a huge appreciation for these games, and I finished a lot of times, and yet I encata return to play. In addition, if you discover any wall that hides a secret, or an area that had not seen before. Other games today as I hook you, but once you just, it is difficult to re-install (except for a select group that has been formed over the years).
And the tricks work IDDQD and IDKFA?
Incidentally, this blog is THE BIBLE of PALM. I mean, since I discovered what I am even more spliced
com my T5.
Ebhorabuena.
Thanks Enrique
You know what? So that work
At the center of the screen are two buttons. The above allows us to put commands, and the bottom shows a virtual keyboard (for example by giving names to the saved games). Click the above and will open a window. IDDQD writes with the graffiti and see the almighty message "mode on Degreelessness"
I think it is time to buy a DS, if possible "no killer"
I remember the IDKFA to Doom. Cheat genius.
And if Mark ... I love to "return" to the village Doom.
My amiguetes the zombies are always there waiting .... and the current HL2 ... I like a lot, like many other titles, but does not have the "glamor" of our old DOS games.
H.
