Filez, free file manager and supervitaminado
On many occasions when we need to access the contents of the RAM on our team, we have found that only with the software that comes preinstalled, we have a program that allows us to do so efficiently. My recommendation has always been to install Filez (local mirror), a file manager free, simple but powerful and ultimately very useful. However, we have never spoken in depth of this program and all you can do so at the suggestion of David Espino, is what we see today.
The first version of Filez dates from November 1999. Bulatewicz Tom, a student at the University of Rochester, created this file manager, due to the lack of one is free to the PalmOS system. Given the author's interest in free software, the GPL program acquired in July 2000, leaving the source code freely available. The popularity of this program has been impressive, winning the prize "Program of the Year" Updated in 2004. PalmAddict In his day he did a little interview with Tom, that you can find here.
Filez allows you to view, copy, move, delete or send by email, infrared, SMS or Bluetooth, all kinds of files, also if they are in main memory or an expansion card. It also lets you view information about our device, and editing the preferences files on your computer.

Filez is an excellent file browser
Its main utility is logically navigation RAM and expansion cards. Once this section of the rogramme, we list the files in the typical tree structure. We can select a file or an entire directory, simply by tapping on their behalf, and because the arrow will indicate that precedes it will turn black. In the upper right is a box called ROM, which does state that in addition to the files in RAM, display or not the files that are stored in the ROM drive (and therefore read-only). The ROM files will differ because they have a chip-shaped icon. Another icon that can appear is a lock, which means that the files are in use by the operating system, and may not be suppressed. If we eliminate them, we have to resort to trick already talked to delete locked files.
The Filter button is located below the center, lets you choose which files show, according to one of its parameters (name, creator, type, etc.) begin, contain, or end in a given string. Finally, in addition to file names in the window always shows another column, which by default displays the file size, but by tapping on the little icons with leaf shape, we can also toggle between all other parameters file, to sort the list according to these (for example, is very helpful to sort by modified date to see what files have been modified since the last certain date). As you can see the power of time to get a view of only the files that interest us, and also sorted by specific criteria, is very large.

Working with a file
Once you select a file by clicking the Details button opens a window where you can change your name, type, creator and version, which are data that can be associated for example PalmOS programs and data files, so you can remove them at once when the uninstall. We can also modify attributes, as in any other operating system, and even change the dates that report when it was created, modified, or saved in a backup, the last time. In this window, using the Send button can send the file as commented via Bluetooth, infrared, email or SMS.
In this view of driver files, we still have some options available via the menu: Create a directory, send the current view, in text mode, a Memo note, show hidden units as the Builtin of some equipment, and course preferences, where you can configure some details, like the colors of the views.

Information on internal and external memory
The second utility of this program is to display information from our device. On the main screen is displayed and the free memory in RAM and expansion cards, battery level and the operating system version. We can say that I displayed as a percentage, such as progress bar, or as a number, simply by tapping on each input. But detailed information is tapping into Information. Inside you will find our team name, the manufacturer and serial number, the exact sizes of the ROM and RAM, the name under which we Hotsync, and date of last synchronization, and the type and current battery levels, threshold warning and critical threshold (below which will turn off the PDA). If we have an expansion card, also show us information about it, choosing from the list on the upper right corner.

Browse and view equipment preferences
Finally, Filez to edit the preferences of our team and some programs. These are saved in two files: SavedPreferences and UnSavedPreferences. The first is called so because it is saved on your PC to do a hotsync, while the second did not. The data are kept in records that are listed by name and creator. If we click we can view them, but not edit them. You can also export to Memo, as before, using the Export List button. This way of access to preferences and delete some records are very useful for things like correcting mistakes (remember the error of Card Export), or return the configuration of a program to its original state. But if we delete something we should not, we can spoil things, so do not touch it unless we know what we are doing. One way to edit preferences, in case anyone ever needs it, uses the Resco File Explorer, notably the Control Panel. But if we want to retrieve these files after a destructive reset, nothing better than a backup program as NVBackup.
And I hope the ink does not leave me no more than Filez utility. As you can see, is the Swiss Army knife of PalmOS, and also free, which will give us complete freedom to manage your files and preferences for when you need to do more advanced work.

Excellent review of a program "must-have" ever present in our palm. Greetings
Yes, it's a program that once you use it, do not know how you could do things without him. A marvel over free, what more can you ask.
Thanks Mark! recommendation to address my thanks also to the chair because I had cleared enough gaps on the program ... we are in contact. By the way I invite you to visit my blog and I made some changes and I joined other texts, because who knows, I am automatically journalist.
Greetings from Acapulco, Guerrero, Mexico!
Glad to have served you, David. I liked your blog is very well use that window to the world that offers Internet, to publicize what you have.
I installed on a TX with fast installation and list nothing comes out. Do you have any procedure for the installation?
Thanks
Ricardo
Mark, how this program can move files from RAM to the card and vice versa?
Congratulations for the site, is of great help to us getting into this world of Palms. Thank you very much!
Yes, it makes moving files between the card and RAM, both appear in the window tree.
Thanks for your support, and please forgive my delay in responding.
