Java Virtual Machine available for your Palm

Continuing the theme of the programs that came on the CD that came with our handhelds, and that we want to recover for various reasons, it is the turn to the IBM WebSphere Micro Environment, the Java virtual machine for PalmOS devices. Until recently, you had to register on their website to get it, and it was unclear which teams were entitled to get free. TamsPalm reading I learn that is available worldwide. Everyone can see if you qualify for lower it. This virtual machine is required to run Java programs such as Opera Mini, or any other program made in Java for PalmOS.

The list of supported equipment is as follows:

Treo 600 and 650, T | X, Tungsten C, Tungsten T3, Tungsten E,
Tungsten E2, Tungsten T5, Zire 72 and LifeDrive.

The installation is reduced to hotsync to transfer two files using the usual way:

  • J9JavaVMMidp20.prc which is the main file.
  • And JavaVMCheck_esES.prc, the file location into Spanish.

In the linked page explains in detail how to install these two files from both Windows and Macintosh. We already have a little easier to run programs written in Java in our palm.
