New photos and video of the operating system ALP, successor of PalmOS
We summarize what is this of ALP and why it interests to us: ACCESS is the company that it bought some months ago to PalmSource, developer of the operating system PalmOS, that is the one that comes installed in all the Palm (except, of course, some Treo that uses Windows Mobile). PalmOS already has been in its version 5 enough time, and Cobalt call was spoken of a 6 version, but finally this project misestimated, and it surprised us to ACCESS all when it announced that a totally new operating system, based on Linux was being created, to replace to PalmOS. This operating system is ALP, abbreviations of “ACCESS Linux Platform”.
Then, after something of time from the last news of this operating system, the boys of PDAExpertos show to photographies and a video to us of operating system ALP working in demonstration hardware, coming from recent 3GSM World Congress 2007.

The new features are remarkable, like for example the capacity to change the language of the equipment from a menu, without needing realising hard reset as it happened until now.
Also the GarnetVM emulator can be seen, that he is the one in charge to execute the applications that existed for PalmOS. This it is a in my opinion fundamental point, since the immense amount of existing software for PalmOS causes that from his beginning ALP he is well assorted of software.

The emulator counts on the possibility of forming parameters like the resolution of screen or the amount of memory, of individual way for each application. A virtual mouse even exists to be able to make APT when the device does not have touch screen.
