Palm also happens to Linux in parallel with Access and its ALP
The juicy story that we read today in Palminfocenter. Ed Colligan, Palm's CEO during Palm Inc's Analyst Day has unveiled plans for the company with respect to PalmOS and Linux: Palm is developing a new operating system based on Linux. Do not confuse it with the ALP of PalmSource from which we have already spoken several times.

Combination of Palm OS 5 Garnet with a Linux kernel
- The most important thing about this development's own Palm, is that it combines the PalmOS Garnet (PalmOS 5) today, with a Linux kernel. On the one hand means that our beloved PalmOS will not be forgotten for always, but will be improved through a Linux kernel presumably multitasking, robust, with support for new technologies. On the other hand, it seems that PalmOS Cobalt (PalmOS 6) is definitely forgotten, though perhaps Cobalt is not only a Garnet advanced, and is being used. Whatever the case, the new operating system will surely seem quite to the current, and the changes occurring below, something that I think all users of PalmOS please.

Prevention is a lot of improvement to the current PalmOS 5
- Ed Colligan to be the key points in the new operating system the ability to have a team of fast ignition, conveniently portable, with a long battery life. These are precisely the qualities most important PalmOS, and I find it a great success that have not been left in oblivion.
- Besides enhancing other features missing in its current operating system, such as the simultaneous processing of voice and data, and greater flexibility to handle hardware changed (hopefully within the wifi between this flexibility).

PalmOS has many advantages over Windows Mobile and other competitors
- Another aspect which is intended to enhance the Web browsing and online services. Have been examples of backup systems and automatic updating of software. With regard to Web browsing, you just have to recall the recent agreement with Opera, creators of the popular browser for mobile devices, Opera Mini, to realize that they think go far.
- Finally, do not get the new operating system from its sleeve, but take you to develop in Palm quite some time.
Another fact that transpired in the subsequent press conference, is that the new products that will use both PalmOS 5 as the new operating system will be in the market at the end of the year, as well as a new type of devices still unknown. In addition, these new products will not necessarily be put on sale through operators (carriers), but also will be on sale in a direct way. The bets are open then about whether or not these teams will include phone functionality. Maybe they are thinking about something like the Nokia 800.
There are still many things in the air. There have been no technical data or hardware SDK, we do not know anything about the compatibility with current and future Palm OS development environment. But one thing is clear: there will be significant developments and not much time.

Finally some good news from Palm ... hopefully this will lead also to have support in Linux because today they have not taken much account, really ... nothing.
that exciting! and I want it to be Christmas
There are ways to put this new OS on a palm with 5.4? I say ... because if it is not only good news that it plans to buy a new palm
Wow only hope that this does not generate tension or incompatibilities between Linux and PalmOS ALP ...
There are many things in the air yet, but I'm also looking forward to seeing that all this is. Who knows, perhaps appearing as a substitute for my Tungsten E2

Exceptional video! Had never seen the PGE fully operational, it looks much better than we imagined. Like to do the test
I have been holding up the enthusiasm of a TX just started to run because of rumors of a new operating system (which are now a more consistent release). At the moment I continue with the TE2, I've seen the video and really impressed me. I share the concerns of a Jose Sedano (http://www.pdatungsteno.com/2006/08/27/detalles-del-nuevo-sistema-operativo-alp/) regarding the possibility that Palm is not interested in producing most PDAs (I opted for the Treo), but I also believe that Marcos, as I commented in the same article of yours, Palm depends on market trends and if the same majority that there is a demand for Palm SmartPhones will not be a produce a device (PDA) whose investment in research, development and marketing will give you less profit than another (Treo, in this case). So things are, or how. Greetings from Xalapa, Veracruz, Mexico.
