Palm interview the president of Mexico in more Information Resources on Foleo
Now that all media have echoed the launch of the Foleo, the latest product from Palm, the time has come to know in more detail. The kids PoderPDA have interviewed premium Ignacio Gallegos, director of Palm Mexico, about this new team and its capabilities. The interview takes about twenty minutes and questions have been really interesting.
Some ideas are discussed in the interview:
- There is a grey area between the category PDA / Smartphones and laptops. The Foleo is placed there, as compared to a laptop of similar size, is much cheaper and lighter, boots instantly, has a battery life much greater, and so on.
- It is based on Linux, while applications are not running that currently exist for Linux, but a Palm own development. It will provide all documentation, bookstores and software needed to develop applications for the Foleo.
- The team has wifi for use without a data plan from your mobile phone. In fact merely makes it possible to use two ways to connect, to cover all needs.
- It will be possible to connect a keyboard or a mouse via the USB port. Likewise, computer memory is expandable through a card Compact Flash and USB external storage devices.
- On the software yet little is known, many applications are in beta status, but there are good ideas such as using the smartphone as a key, so that if you're not near the team so that it can be detected via bluetooth, the Foleo crashes .
- The Foleo will be compatible with all types of smartphones, whether Symbian, Palm, Windows Mobile and RIM (Blackberry).
- Will be launched before the Christmas campaign, both in electronics stores and shops in the mobile telephone operators (carriers) that are interested.

Some Palm Foleo photos taken during the interview
In addition to the interview, PoderPDA we can find a large gallery of photographs of the Foleo, taken during the visit.
We will see the result which gives this new product on the market. The idea of course is good, and indeed already beginning to emerge similar projects from other manufacturers. The competition will be tough: a device with small but comfortable keyboard and screen to take internet always at hand is something that undoubtedly will be part of everyday life in a short time. Especially when the flat rate of data via the mobile phone is at a reasonable price.
Or is it that someone thinks that the 3G successor and will be a success only if it can be used in a 2-inch screen, or on a laptop several kilos of which must be loaded on top? La banda ancha via the mobile is the future, and the amount of money that will bring operators is something that is worth creating a new generation of gadgets.

I do not think we can put a frame around it in an existing category. … It is a mobile companion, although more or less fit with those of Psion handhelds.
