OSIRIS: Robotics and Palm PDA together on a project made in Colombia
This entry is a collaboration of Rodrigo Martinez, a member of Robotics The Biperra of the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana, Colombia. He kindly sent me an article about your robot OSIRIS, which makes machine vision processing and control from a Zire 72. Last year was Champion at RoboGames, in the category of BipedRace.
The word robot was coined by Czech writer Karel Capek, in his Opilec (a novella published in 1917), and comes from the Czech word Robota which means servitude, but now that word has spread and has captured a large field within the world of electronics. Through this process, robotics has created ways for man to be able to produce machines that mimic, and this is the point where part Osiris Advance.

Process of building the latest version of the robot (time 3 years)
These robots and many others are the ancestors of the latest and group pride.
Since entering the subject, this robot consists of a mechanical system called Bipedal Humanoid and an artificial vision system and control comprising a Palm PDA, a Zire 72. The whole is focused on international competition called the HUROSOT Humanoid Robot Soccer competition of the FIRA, which is like FIFA but Robots.

It all starts when you turn to Osiris and do a tap on the start button of the software developed in HB + + for this "come alive" and has vision and movement, its Zire 72 serves as your brain and senses. Initializing the camera acquires an image that is processed on the PDA, which determines the position of a ball on the court. This digital information is used to activate a proportional control system implemented in the Zire 72, which decides what movements to do the robot, sending this information to the engines through its infrared port, for it with his short but firm steps scope its aim and kick the ball, and if the goalkeeper is neglected the long-awaited turn GOLLLLL.

Playing court and robot in action
Construction time is a little over three years. In its early stages was Olympic champion at RoboGames (Biped Race 2006) and, with help from other robots, left Colombia fourth worldwide in this important event. The cost to us is incalculable but for the rest of the world is around U.S. $ 900, course is unique in the world, having been built by the hands of Rodrigo, Jairo and Oscar.

Osiris in goal
It is also possible to control Osiris from a LifeDrive and Treo 650 via bluetooth, simplemete running different software.
A future is to create a machine vision software, geared to helping blind people in different everyday activities such as pick the colors of the clothes when washing or even inform you when someone enters an office or room, then Robotics sport is very interesting but should always be applied to improving human life.

Wow that post INTERESANTISIMO! A Zire 72 as a robot brain! It works just as well with a Treo 650, whereas it has a camera 0.3 Mpixels versus the Zire 72 which is 1 Mpixels?
And also caught my attention this HB, no runtime, maybe even simpler than the CodeWarrior Basic ... there will be simple to take a look. Greetings.
Yeah, me neither knew the HB and I found it interesting ...
You surprised me with the camera on the Zire 72, I knew I had 1MP. What a shame what the Treo's VGA camera: S
It is inexplicable that the CDMA Treo are 1.3 Mpixels cameras while Treo GSM have only 0.3 Mpixels. Seeing this post I would love that the day had 48 hours sleep and not have much to learn so many things I like to do "some" dia ... Saludos.
That day never comes if we are serious about it. The world belongs to the bold
Thank you very much for your comments .... I hope many people who read q and q to realize little things can do good things! and any info. asus extra orders ... Also thanks to the publication PDATUNGSTENO really makes us very happy ....
Rodrigo was a pleasure. You are an example of how a Palm can hold for all kinds of purposes.
I congratulate my colleagues Rodrigo, Oscar and Jairo. They have done an excellent job, they should be proud. I extend congratulations to the teachers and the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana that has enabled this great project a reality. Adelante!
Many congratulations on your achievements boys, makes me feel as proud as if this were my project, again a thousand congratulations and a hug too big for the people of the Pontifical, in particular for whom I saw oscar grow with the illusion of doing what until the present day is getting ... ... AGUANTE KILLERS
pdatugsteno heartfelt thanks for the opportunity to publish an advance for the whole community palm. also thanks for your comments, the Biperra to their ranks.
Hello, first of all congratulations for the fabulous project that took place.
I recently purchased a Palm Zire 72 because I represented the lowest cost to buy a touchscreen color display!?
Queria saber si uds could provide documentation, bibliography, websites or anything concerning the serial communication (in this case I guess it's USB, or IrDA, Bluetooth even better) because I am facing projects (hobby) in which Palm need to link with a pic, the 18F2550.
Maybe we can exchange some emails.
In all matters relating to general electronics, management and programming of PIC microcontrollers, motor pap am at your disposal.
Greetings, Javier.
