OSIRIS: Robótica and PDA Palm united in a project made in Colombia
This entrance is a collaboration of Rodrigo Martinez, member of the Group of Robotics the Bitches of the Pontifical University Bolivariana, in Colombia. Amiably an article has sent me on its robot OSIRIS, who realises their processing of artificial vision and control from a Zire 72. The past year was Champion in ROBOGAMES, the category of BipedRace.
The word robot was coined by the Czech writer Karel Capek, in its Opilec work (a published short novel in 1917), and comes from the Czech term Robota that means servitude; but at present this word has expanded and monopolized a great field within the world of the electronics. Thanks to this process, the robotics has been created ways so that the man is able to produce machines imitate that it, and this one is the point where part Osiris Advance.

These robots and many others are the predecessors of the last version and pride of the group.
Already entering subject, this robot is made up of a mechanical system called Biped Humanoide and a system of artificial vision and control made up of a PDA of Palm, a Zire 72. All the set is focused towards an international competition called the HUROSOT competition of Soccer Robótico Humanoide of the FIRA, that is like the FIFA but of Robots.

Everything begins when igniting to Osiris and to make an APT in the button of beginning of the software developed in HB so that this “copper life” and has vision and movement; its Zire 72 works like its brain and its senses. Initializing the camera an image is acquired that is processed in the PDA, which determines the position of a ball in the field. This one digitized information is used to activate an executed proportional control system in the ZIRE 72, that decides what movements must make the robot, sending this information to the motors by means of their infrared port, so that this one with its short ones but firm steps reach their objective and kick the ball, and if the doorman neglects it turns so yearned for GOLLLLL.

The time of construction is of a little but of three years. In his first stages (Biped RACE 2006) was Olympic champion in ROBOGAMES and, with the help of others robots, left to Colombia fourth a world-wide level in this so important event. Its cost for us is incalculable but for the rest of the world it is of approximately of US$900, of course, that is unique in the world, because it was constructed by the hands of Rodrigo, Jairo and Oscar.

Also it is possible to control to Osiris from a LifeDrive and a Treo 650 by means of bluetooth, simplemete executing a different software.
To future he is desired to create a software of artificial vision, focused to help to invidente people in different daily activities, like choosing the colors of the clothes at the time of washing or to even inform which moment enters somebody an office or room, because the sport Robotics is very interesting but it always must be applied to improve the human life.

The most interesting Wow that post! A ZIre 72 like brain of a robot! It works equal of good with a Treo 650, considering that has a chamber of 0,3 Mpixeles versus the Zire 72 that is of 1 Mpixeles?

Hello, first of all congratulations by the fabulous project that carried out.
Recently adquiri a Palm Zire 72 since it represented minor to me cost that to buy a screen to color touchscreen?
Queria to know if you podrian to facilitate documentation to me, bibliography, Web sites or all that one regarding the serial communication (in this case I suppose that he is usb, or irda, bluetooth even better) since I am facing projects (hobby) in which I need to tie the Palm with pic, 18F2550.
Perhaps we pruned to interchange some mails.
In all regarding electronic general, handling and programming of microcontroller pic, motors pap I am to his dispocision.
