Changing the language of your Palm with PiLoc

Many times after buying a second hand Palm PDA, or in another country, new users are faced with a problem: how to change the language? Some are multi Palm (mainly European), which means that you can choose from (the first start) the language they used. Usually these six languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Italian and Portuguese. If our Palm is one of them, they simply have to do a hard reset for us to go back to this question, and we choose our mother tongue.

The problem, however, is that there are other Palm that only supports a single language, including English. In its ROM is not included files with the necessary translations, and it is impossible to use another language. ¿Impossible? Not completely, since there PiLoc.

PiLoc is a program that modifies the PalmOS PDA changing our language and localization options, supporting a total of no fewer than 30 languages: Arabia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarusian, Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hungarian, Icelandic, Italian, LATV, Lithuanian, Mongolian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Swedish, Turkish, Ukrainian, and of course Spanish. The program is not limited to translate messages from the operating system, but also locates the PDA, ie suited to the culture of the country, added the letter "o" at the keyboard in the case of Spanish, allows the accents of that language and so on. It is curious to see such a Palm IIIc or a Visor Deluxe, which was never built with support for other language than English, and yet with PiLoc have letter "ñ" on the keyboard.

At the technical level, which makes PiLoc PalmOS is that it works internally with Unicode, which makes it much easier to adapt to the language after it is needed. Additionally, it includes sources point to the new language, and amending the graffiti to include characters that correspond to that location. There are two versions of PiLoc: the Lite, which runs for five days as the complete, but only after providing translation of the keyboard and graffiti, and complete, that translates completely all messages from the operating system.

So if your PDA or smartphone, Palm is in a language with which you can not work comfortably, do a test with the Lite version and if you're running smoothly, you will get compensated with the full version that you can use your Palm and finally with any comfort.

And for those with multiple needs of location, PiLoc Monitor is another program that complements PiLoc, specifically allowing us to change the language of the Palm "on the fly." Palm essential if we are going to use more than one language.

Published: Genaro in the comments we recommend a better option to go to the Palm Russian, which is also free: CryHack V.
