The Palm as a tool of the hacker (VI): network analysis

Following this series of posts about how to convert our Palm in a hacking tool, now see how, once Palm is within our network, we have all the necessary tools to explore:

  • Mergic Ping is a Palm OS implementation of UNIX Ping (ICMP Echo). Can be used in conjunction with VPN Mergic to test our connectivity to the virtual private network, or in general any computer on the network.
  • After giving a host name or IP address to analyze PalmPing test different services (eg ECHO), detecting whether the same exist on the computer under test. Also provides network statistics, requests for statistics using native PalmOS.

  • A tool like traceroute can not miss us if we use the Palm to analyze incidents in our network. A traceroute is to identify the computers that a packet passes through on its way between our PDA and equipment destination.
  • As a customer of Whois, a service that provides information about internet domains (as owner or email contact), we can use vWhois. Another program for the same purpose gratito is Whois.
  • To have all these little handy network utilities easily, we can install CheckWWW, a tool that integrates Whois, Ping, Traceroute, NS Lookup and Finger.

  • PScan is another essential tool in this case a port scanner for PalmOS. The latest version is functional, and its code is free.
  • PalmMap is another port scanner, in this case trying to be famous like nmap. It is necessary to compile it from its source.

  • Portscanner is another port scanner for TCP / IP. Port scanners let you know what ports are open on a computer given its IP or hostname. It is useful for example in WiFi networks, to know what services are available at a hotspot.
  • PingAlink is an external monitoring service for Web servers and other networking equipment. Constantly monitors the performance of our server or computer.
  • A similar tool is also HTTP ServerWatch, which collects information on the response time of our servers, among others.
  • Something that I was surprised to find, and that would be tested in your Palm to see if it is true, is that PalmOS brings integrated network tools (info, finger, NetTrace, and ping), but only accessible through an egg Easter. Info displays information about the active connection, Finger is used to find users in a remote host, NetTrace can test the connection to a remote host and Ping as we used to test connectivity. To find them we must go to Preferences, go into "Network" in the Options menu choose the item "View Logs", once open to write to the graffiti a "?" And click OK: a list with the network tools available.
  • Cgicheck99 is one of the most ported CGI scanners, running in a total of 37 operating systems including PalmOS. 119 detects common CGIs and other details. Even with its report vulnerabilities Bugtraq ID. You need the interpreter Rebol.
  • In Hydra we have spoken as useful to discover passwords, but also a very comprehensive program has no place in this category.
  • To browse the information that IANA publishes, have iDomains (for top level domains) and iServices (to know the ports and protocols that use network services).
  • To prevent our Palm is turned off while connected to the network, there is a small utility Powernet. So we are not disconnected from the server to leave the Palm unattended for several minutes. If you want to disable the timing of the Palm off definitively, we can use AlwaysOn.

As we see, a considerable list of utilities, which demonstrates the interest in using the Palm as hacking tools and networking. In the next post will continue this series of articles.
