How to record sound with the Palm with the highest quality
Some like the Palm Treo, the LifeDrive, or even the T5 or TX with an external microphone, can record audio without much problem, using the sound recorder program that gives Palm, Voice Notes. However, this program is intended only to record voice, and in addition to the resulting file occupies as little as possible: it uses a sampling frequency of phone conversation (ie, very low quality) and a compression format at a loss.

The Palm can do very well the role of sound recorder
However, the quality of the microphone of the Palm is pretty good at hardware, so it's a penalty miss when we want to record something with more fidelity, for example to make a podcast or an interview. And the programs available for recording audio quality than the Palm are all for payment, and also expensive. This is what I thought the creator of Better Recorder, a free program to record audio through a microphone from the Palm.
Better Recorder records the audio in RAW format, with no compression. Ie, 16-bit PCM to 44,100 Hz, such as a CD. Like CDs, which store 650MB in 74 minutes, the resulting file will be very big. In fact half of that in a large CD, as recorded in mono instead of stereo (the hardware does not allow stereo recording). The sampling rate can be reduced if we need to create smaller files, or just our PDA is not fast enough to store the recording data are generated according to (the solution may be to buy a high-speed SD card).
The program is very simple to use: simply choose the sampling frequency of a list, and start and stop recording by pressing a button that appears on the program window, or clicking on any of the physical buttons on the Palm. During recording two graphs show will be drawn where the wave form. Looking at these pictures we can know when we saturating the microphone and therefore we have to remove the Palm of the origin of the sound to prevent degradation of quality: the sound is saturating the microphone when the wave touches the top of the chart, ie is more intense than the maximum value that the microphone is capable of recording, so the wave will be cut by up, and then there will be new frequencies that distort the sound.

The overdrive is a useful effect in the techno music but not in a tape recorder
The recordings are saved in WAV format in the folder / records / of the SD card. Every time I start a recording, it creates a new file. The program does not include a per WAV player for simplicity, but any audio player that we have installed you can play it without problems, for example TCPMP.
As I said before, Better Recorder is free, so it can be downloaded from its SourceForge page in both the program itself as the source.

Well, I use pair-pro in my treo but I will try to see that, thanks for the tip.
Just looking for something like that, nice to read again, friend
An equally happy to have you here again, I hope that everything go well for you, Leo.
Excellent post Marcos ... I achieved a very tiny microphone rescued from a bluetooth device ... so we can make the mod's internal microphone, once I buy a COLDHEAT that is more accurate for the welding.
So I hope soon to comment that this is the program you comment on a TX. Greetings.
Excellent, TX now also as the sound recorder. And tell us
Hi I have a palm tx and I would like to know if it works the recorder with my tx? and whether it is possible to convert recorded MP3. and because my tx restarts alone? I am always on the agenda Whin hack without this program is very annoying to use the palm by the buzz.
greetings
q I think you're great for all articles published thanks for making life easier for us like the palm q
Hello, the first thing to thank your effort and advice throughout this blog.
Then I discuss a problem that has arisen using the BR and I have not managed to solve: If you attempt to record a meeting, turn the palm BR and starting up there all perfect. But when the LD is autoapaga recording is interrupted, becoming a restart to turn it on again, proving impossible to record portions of more than 3 minutes without having to be "playing" with her constantly, which is not always possible during the meetings.
Somebody has solved this problem?
Hey, I was going to ask something similar to what he said ... mud. I tried multiple recorders, but none to continue recording with the palm turned off .... found no one who used to that functionality?
