PalmOS programs running on Windows Mobile or Symbian
The other day we talked about the new virtual machine that ACCESS has developed for the Nokia N-series. But this is not the only way to run Palm OS programs on machines with other operating system. Some time that we have StyleTap, a program that does this same thing for devices running Windows Mobile. As we saw the fleet of applications for PalmOS reaches 30,000, and it would be a complete waste not being able to take advantage of other teams. Moreover, many of these applications cover a specific need that will never fall into another operating system for mobile devices.
StyleTap can run thousands of Palm applications on Windows Mobile
There are lots of applications that StyleTap Palm can run. In general, if an application does not utliza HotSync conduits (to synchronize information with your PC), or hacks away from HackMaster API, and does not try to low-level access to records of the Palm, will run smoothly in StyleTap.
StyleTap specifically runs on Windows Mobile 6.0, Windows Mobile 5.0 for Smartphone, Windows Mobile 5.0 for Pocket PC, Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC, Pocket PC 2002 and Pocket PC 2000. You may appear in future versions of StyleTap platform for the iPhone and Android. For Windows Mobile, there are two versions of StyleTap, geared to different teams:
- StyleTap for Windows Mobile is designed for PocketPC devices that have a touchscreen and a stylus, for example Treo700w/700wx, HP iPAQs, Dell Axim, and many HTC.
- StyleTap for Windows Mobile for Smartphone, for its part, is designed for computers that do not have touch screen and stylus, but a browser from five directions, namely Windows Mobile Smartphone like the Motorola Q, Samsung Blackjack, and T - Mobile Dash.
StyleTap also allows games to emulate PalmOS
The installation of Palm OS applications on Windows Mobile with StyleTap is simple. In the PC installs a program called StyleTap Application Installer. This program is responsible for successfully install the files on the PDA .prc / .pdb using ActiveSync, which later StyleTap for the run. To install programs from MacOS or Linux, we can not use the Application Installer, but the process is equally simple: you place the files .prc / .pdb needed in the directory database StyleTap (on the Windows Mobile PDA) that default is \ Program Files \ StyleTap \ db ". To download a directory that you can use an SD memory, wifi connectivity downloaded by the PDA or bluetooth, or transfer them by infrared.

It should be noted also that there is a version of StyleTap for Symbian UIQ and Series 60 in an advanced state of development, in fact yesterday was officially announced to be launched to market in the future. Hi Mark, once again your very useful contribution. I just have one question. What most interests me is the Styletap able to run the datebk and efficient way to recover organize through templates, but when I installed it I did not recognize the timing of WM6. It installs the program and it seems that goes well, but no data because it does not recognize the basis of the timetable for wm. Is something happening to you? A hug.
Mmm, I do not think that the programs installed on the StyleTap Palm OS and Windows Mobile programs natives come to communicate with them easily, even if they are installed on the same team.
You will have to raise it as a transfer of data between different machines, a Windows Mobile PDA to a Palm. To do this you could for instance use Outlook as an intermediate step: ActiveSync to synchronize the info from the WM, and then by the Hotsync DateBk.
Ultimately have to decide to use only one or the other, I do not think that they can share data transparently.
because if not palm brings something good will end up using windows mobile .. mac or something that does not take ..
Well, yes, seeing that it is possible to take all the programs to other Palm OS platform, are going to have that much beating about the eye so as not to be in the gutter.
