Solving the corruption of the MicroSD card in the HTC P3300

Some users of the HTC P3300 (also known as HTC Artemis, Orange M650, Dopod P800, O2 XDA Orbit, Dopod P800W or T-Mobile MDA Compact III) are having problems with MicroSD memory card. In particular, they occur corruptions of the system files on the card, manifested in file names with strange characters, incorrect file sizes, dates of change impossible, and so on.

This problem has been solved in time, so I will explain here all the causes and solutions presented at the time, so that everyone makes their own tests with all available information.

At the time, the consensus was that in some of these teams MicroSD card is embedded not strong enough, so the contacts do not always contact with the card is lost and therefore part of the changes that are writing in the card. Place a small wedge is a solution that has worked to multiple users. Anyway, if you suffer the same problem it is best that you contact directly with the customer service of HTC.

As the first solution, a user created a small utility that prevents loss of information: recognizing the time when the file system of the SD crashes, and alerts the user. A soft-reset immediately prevents loss of data in most cases. This utility is called SD sentry, and was written by Nickolay Merkin. For those who will try: in teams with no English language (ie Spanish) will be necessary to create some files by hand in order to function (because of the different name in each language that gets the directory where a mounted MicroSD card) .

HTC has subsequently replied (08/Mar/07) to questions from users regarding this problem. I translate the message below:

The problem is that describes something that we are aware, and we are in the process of being rectified. Appears to be related in some way with some updates to Windows Mobile 5, and therefore we are working with Microsoft to resolve the problem. It seems that the team is trying to access the memory still be in suspended mode. Our engineers in Taiwan are studying this problem but in the meantime, to avoid this problem, set the automatic auto-off in energy options at such an hour, and allow the computer to shut down rather than just turn it off by pressing the button shutdown.

Finally, HTC seems to have solved the problem in recent ROMs based on Windows Mobile 6. The update of the official HTC P3300 Windows Mobile 6 can be downloaded for free (after registering) from the page of HTC.

Finally, for those who do not want to update your ROM, it seems that Nokia has released this update of the drivers of the MicroSD card as a separate package. It can be downloaded at this link.

I recommend installing this patch only if you have had problems with the MicroSD. Personally, I installed it to try it, but I would need, and as my PDA already has Windows Mobile 6.1 installed, the driver what he did is that the SD card will not appear after the soft-reset. The solution was easy: go to "Remove Programs" and uninstall it like any other program. It appears with the name "HTC DrvUpdate Patch." So I think it is necessary only if you have installed Windows Mobile 5.0 or maybe 6.0. For trying not to miss anything, as I said then you can uninstall without problems.

With either of the two methods will be solved this annoying problem of corruption of files on the MicroSD, so that those affected return to a reliable and efficient team, as has so far proven to be on my personal experience.
