Faxes can already be commanded from the Treo

I have found in the Blog de Leo that already can be sent faxes from the Treo. The page of program CS Fax is this one. In palManiac they inform into a summary on the program realised by PalmDubai.net. The most important characteristics are:

  • Support for annotations: you receive the fax, it companies you give back and it.
  • Automatic detection of the type of network: so that only with installing it already you can send faxes.
  • The annotations are made directly on the fax. With stylus we can surround words, emphasize them, etc. Everything what we would do with a ball-point pen!
  • Groups: you can keep faxes as groups, soon to add the text and to send them to them, without modifying the original one.
  • Notes can be done on the covers, since it would take control of a paper fax.
  • Drawings: the annotation can be used to create drawings and schemes quickly

With this program, no longer it has why to remain in the office doing time, while hope that an important paper arrives.

The PDAs continues being strangers for the general public

Today Zebus has made a reflection aloud with which I agree completely.

Like every year that I take since it buys first pda to me, I have wanted that everybody saw everything what is able to do these devices and wanting that was the gift more sold it Christmas and thus to be able to have more friendly with those than to speak, to comment and to trastear things for these apparatuses.

But year after year itself seeing that they do not take the ascents in sales and they remain always other devices ahead.

These Christmases that could be propitious for that certain BOOM so waited for and leave to the market devices that estan leaving of side pdas, I talk about the digital console, simple chambers and mp3 (Xbox 360, PSP, Ipod, Nintendo Ds, etc…) When many things than make these apparatuses, can be done more or less with pdas.

Perhaps if Palm, showed a little more publicity and the venderores of many stores would not announce pdas like simple expensive agendas but pretty, it would be possible to be arrived at that BOOM that the users of pdas we want that it arrives.

We will have to surpass we ourself that BOOM.

We are realistic, all we have known what was a PDA by chance. Or a friend had that earthenware vessel that never we had seen before, or we happened through the zone of the technology store that has those apparatuses that we do not know so that noses are worth. I consider a great fan to the technology, and nevertheless I did not see one until I used east year in the university for practices. But not outside by that chance, it would follow without knowing nothing of them.

It already goes being hour of which they are decided to sell them to the public generally, like something more than “that screen where it leaves the information the GPS of the car”, that is the unique function that according to the salesmen they have (a stroll by any great generalist surface is not necessary more to occur).

Gentlemen of Palm, spend Euros in publicity, generate sense of expectancy, dense to know. It becomes difficult to think to me about something more showy than a small and light apparatus that allows to do tantísimas things, he has a very attractive design, an enormous factor geek when using each and every one of the buzzwords of the moment (bluetooth, wifi, portable, computerized, etc), and above is feasible to take it always above to all parts, not like trasto of laptop, and on the other hand without having a ridiculously small screen like the movable telephones. Whenever I see million of iPods that they are sold, which in the end are only worth to listen to music, or of PSPs, that is still a portable videoconsola somewhat trasto, I imagine what would happen if definitively they put the PDAs fashionable.

It enjoys your reproductive portable multimedia Palm (and II)

Now that already we know that our Palm can perfectly serve like portable reproducer multimedia to us, the moment arrives for learning to turn our archives of video to a format and characteristics adapted for her.

Starting off of the video file that we wish, the process consists of recodificar using it a smaller resolution (less pixels of width and stop), since a resolution greater than the one than our PDA can show, will be to waste space and capacity of storage. Also usually it is reduced the rate of images per second, effect that in a screen small note little, but reduces the information drastically to store. Yet it, will obtain that the resulting file will be much smaller than the original one.

In order to carry out this task, we will use VirualDub, a utility of capture and processing of video, of free and gratuitous use, released under license lpg. A very detailed tutorial exists to realise the conversion, published in PDAExpertos. You can find it here.

VirtualDub is a program of processing of very complete video

Besides VirtualDub, that is the program that helps us to work with the videos, also we will need codecs, that is the software that really is in charge to process our video. According to the format in we want which it to compress, or DivX (proprietor), Xvid (it frees), etc, we will need to have installed codecs corresponding in our equipment. In PDAExpertos the K-Lite Codec Pack is recommended, that I have accidentally used during years, and it allows despreocuparte you of the subject of the formats, since it supports all the of audio and video that surely necesiteis in the life. Once the conversion process has finished (following your machine it can be delayed enough), we will copy the resulting file to our PDA, having used anyone of the methods that already have commented.

With the film stored in our Palm, already only it is to install a reproducer. I recommend TCPMP to you (strange name that as always comes from The Core Pocket Media Player), who is, attempt, free and gratuitous software. Using TCPMP we will also be not worried of the formats, since it supports a Pleiad of them. Extracted of its documentation:

Archives supported containers:
- AVI (*.avi)
- Matroska (*.mkv, *.mka)
- MP4 (*.mp4, *.m4a)
- Average Ogg (*.ogg, *.ogm)
- ASF (*.asf)

Codecs of audio supported:
- MPEG 1 Layer III
- Ogg Vorbis
- Musepack
- Audio Average Windows (in Windows Mobile devices)
- AC-3
- AMR
- Adpcm, uLaw

Codecs of video supported:
- DivX
- XviD
- MPEG4-SP (and it has supported for B-frame)
- MPEG1
- M-JPEG
- Windows Media Video (in Windows Mobile devices)

We install the main program along with the corresponding archives prc, and we already have everything what video makes lack to see nuesto. In case of having a PDA with resolution 320×480, the film will be able to be turned 90º to take advantage of the screen completely. If on the contrary the screen is square (like my Tungsten E2, with 320×320 pixels), logically it will not be necessary.

TCPMP reproduces great amount of formats of audio and video

It only is to remember that the video reproduction is a task that requires much CPU, perhaps reason why in a PDA not very recent, the image goes a little by jumps. The solution is in playing with deals (quality) with that we codify the video. It will be necessary to be testing, lowering it until we give with a rate of bits with which our Palm puedasin problems. The same is applicable to the quality of audio. Nevertheless, like reference, in my E2 with processor of 200MHz, the videos can be seen perfectly still codified with much quality.

And or it is, I hope that you enjoy seeing your films in the meter or the bus, or where it wants that tengais awhile frees, since that is the good thing of a PDA, it accompanies that you to all parts without problem to use it you need when it. As always, the doubts the points that have not been clear, you do not doubt in indicating them in the commentaries.

Published: They excavate remembers to me, in the commentaries, a very useful program to turn video files, call PocketDivX Encoder. I have used it sometimes and is very useful, but when writing this post, by error mine, I thought that one had become payment program. I see that it is not thus. You intention to prove it.

Published: it seems that as the TCPMP creators have turned this one into a payment reproducer, the TCPMP page has disappeared. For that you would qiuieran to take control of TCPMP I have raised it servant: to unload TCPMP 0,72 RC1.

Palm will use Linux

I read in IBLNews, that Paul Blinkhorn, vice president for Asia-Pacific de Palm, confirms the probability that Palm introduces in China a Treo using Linux, without stopping continuing producing Treos which they use Palm OS.

Linux can run perfectly in a PDA

OSMurcia, blog of the Open Source Community of Murcia, extends the news, commenting that

At the moment Palm produces Treos that uses Palm OS (650), and Windows (700w). Apparently in China they are not going to send the Treo that runs Windows, deciding on a version with Linux. Recently the matrix of PalmSource (creative of PalmOS), Access Co, adquirio a China company that developed software for movable telephones based on Linux.

This rumor of the use of Linux for future Palm devices, takes circulating around the network several months, but the possibility of being used in the Asian market seems viable, dice the strong interest of countries like China, Japan or Korea in the use of free software, by the added security and technological independence with respect to North American companies that offer to them.

“High speed” notes of voice in the Palm with microphone

Although I do not have a Palm with microphone, I have found in the Weblog de Zebus a commentary on “the ultrafast” way to keep a note from voice. It seems to me most useful to point things that to still make, faster than to write it in the Whole.

An alarm to the voice note can be associated

By the sight, beating and maintaining pressed the button recording, a voice note will begin that will finalize you loosen when it. Automatically it will be kept in notes from voice with his date and hour and duration, and it will even let to us associate an alarm to him so that we remember listen to it later. Although Zebus notices to us that if we kept the note in card SD not it can associate an alarm.

It did not know that facility to take notes. Pity that my Tungsten E2 does not have micro.
