Read the news when you want, connectionless to Internet (i)
From the exit of apparatuses like the Blackberry of RIM, or the Treo de Palm, the possibility of being always connected, what has been opened this entails yet: service of email with instantaneous notification and at any moment (PUSH), possibility of connecting itself to Internet to sail, to read the news, etc. The only problem of this wonder is that, like always, the operators receive their services to crazy prices. Nevertheless, I was not wanted to be without the possibility of using my Palm to read the news and binnacles that I follow habitually at any time and place.
And in fact I obtained it. All the mornings while breakfast, I leave to the Tungsten doing a Hotsync, during which unloading of Internet the pages and blogs that I have chosen, so that soon they are arranged to its reading when it has a little while of relax during the day. And how much costs east service? The reasonable price of zero euros (or dollars or weights, like the prefirea reader).
All we know that a page Web normally does not see too much well in the reduced screen of a PDA (320×320 pixels for the Palm, 320×240 for the PocketPC). But there are two types of content that yes can visualize perfectly in these devices: movable feeds RSS and versiónes of some webs.
Pages like the one of the newspaper the Country, or vestibules CanalPDA or PDA Mexico, have available their content in slight format, with text and images, so that they are possible to be read comfortably in apparatuses with small screen. The problem is that to isitar we will need them connection to Internet, with the cost that this carries, so more ahead I will comment how I make to keep them in the PDA to read them off-line.
On the other hand, feed RSS is a file that post of binnacles contains, the news of vestibules, etc, with a standard format that allows to read them in which “agregadores RSS” are denominated;. It is a way to be up-to-date without having to visit the page at issue periodically, since the program consults the new features every certain time, and it warns to us when these happen. Agregadores RSS for Palm exist but no of them convinced to me totally:
- QuickNews is a brilliant program, but it does not support images when we synchronized the news during the Hotsync, and in addition makes the processing of feeds in our PDA, with which it is delayed several favorite minutes whenever we want to load ours blogs.
- Bloglines is a agregador Web, that in addition has slight version to PDA reason why from the navigator (Blazer for example in my case), we can sail without problems. The problem is that we will need connection to Internet to sail by him, and is that what we want to avoid.
- AvantGo is most similar to which I walk looking for, but is of payment, and the gratuitous version limits the contents 2Mb, besides to be full of advertising announcements. In addition he is slow and heavy in the PDA, and we only can choose the contents that they offer (although for a short time they give the possibility of adding feeds RSS chosen by tí).
As you see, no of these precooked solutions fulfills with which I request of them. Perhaps in any case, to you it seems to you sufficient some of them, I animate to you to prove them. Nevertheless for that they request more like I, I have prepared an explanation of the method that I use personally, but that will be in following post, because this one already has extended too much.
